I don't photograph landscapes.
I photograph moments when we find ourselves facing something larger than us. A lone figure on a rock, two people facing the storm, someone walking towards what we cannot see.
Black and white is not an effect. It is what remains when colour has nothing left to say: values, shapes, and the emptiness around them.
One series runs through this work, standing stones. Beacons, poles, towers, steeples, lone trees: any vertical form that holds itself upright in an empty space. They were put there for someone else. I only note that they are still standing.
